After starting her photography business in 2009, Deidre saw the impact photography could have on others, and wanted to use her gift to help. Feeling a deep connection to several families in her community who had adopted, she created her Honoring Adoption program where she gifted a photography session to adoptive families.  The people and stories that she encountered began to stir something in her, but it wasn't until 2014 that it was fully recognized. After a phone call with some dear friends, Beau and Wendy Dial, who were nearing closure on a three year long adoption process, Deidre saw the financial need and Santa Charity was born. The first Santa Charity Event raised over $7,000, introduced 108 families to Santa AND the Dial’s adoption journey, and impacted countless others through social media and word of mouth. Year two brought even more people together- 162 families met Santa and 40+ volunteers came together and helped raise more than $10,000 for two adopting families!!

After the first fundraiser, Santa Charity grew into The Wyatt Project. The Wyatt Project is named after Deidre’s first born, James Wyatt, and the first Santa Charity baby, Ames Wyatt, and exists to provide financial assistance to families seeking to adopt. Each year, our team creates a custom Santa portrait experience for local families with all of the profits benefiting adoptive families. Through our fundraiser, we hope to build community around adoption, inspire people to help, advocate for orphans, and ultimately bring children to their forever home.

The Wyatt Project’s 2016 Santa Charity event was held on December 3rd and 4th. For more information on how to book or if you would like to volunteer for our 2017 event, please email santacharity@deidreruth.com.
